RICHMOND, Va. — What began as a masterclass in short track dominance by two drivers ended in a crumpled heap of sheet metal and a shocking upset. Truth Hoke stole a victory at Richmond Raceway in a wild overtime finish, leading only the final, chaotic lap of the night.

For the vast majority of the scheduled 100 lap event, the race was exclusively controlled by Robert Conn and Christian Shriver. Conn established himself as the man to beat early on, capturing the pole position with a blistering lap of 21.395 seconds. He carried that speed into the race, leading a race high 63 laps. However, Shriver was relentless, pacing the field for 30 laps of his own. The two front runners battled fiercely all night, driving the race to an impressive 13 lead changes as they traded the top spot.

The rhythm of the long green flag runs was broken up by four cautions, which accounted for 18 pace laps. The most consequential of these yellow flags flew with just two laps remaining in regulation. This late caution erased the comfortable gap Conn and Shriver had built over the rest of the pack, bunching the field back up and forcing the race into a high stakes overtime restart.

As the green flag waved for OT, Conn and Shriver resumed their heavyweight bout for the win. But as the leaders charged into Turn 3 on the white flag lap, the complexion of the race changed entirely. Truth Hoke, running just behind the leaders, drove into the corner with incredible speed, forcing a massive three wide situation on the inside. The do or die divebomb washed all three trucks up the track, sending Conn, Shriver, and Hoke slamming heavily into the outside wall. Amidst the sparks and crunching metal, Hoke managed to keep his damaged machine pointed straight just long enough to cross the finish line first.

The garage area was a scene of heavy tension following the checkered flag. Both Shriver and Conn were visibly frustrated in their post race interviews. After dominating the entire night and racing each other cleanly, both drivers expressed extreme displeasure with Hoke's desperate last corner move that destroyed their trucks and robbed them of a hard fought victory.
