WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — The roaring engines echoed through upstate New York this week as the league tackled a grueling 30 lap road course test at Watkins Glen International, where GIO Turpin delivered a masterclass behind the wheel to take the victory while the unforgiving twists and turns shattered the championship dreams of several top contenders. The event kicked off with blazing single lap speed in qualifying as Jason Nieto set the standard early, wrestling his car around to lay down a pole winning time of 1:10.041. However, once the field took the green flag, it quickly became the Turpin show in a display of clean road course racing that ran entirely flag to flag with zero full course cautions. Relying purely on raw race pace and immense focus without any yellow flags to cool the tirea or bunch up the field, Turpin proved to be the absolute class of the field, pacing the field for a dominant 22 laps and never looking back as he crossed the finish line to take a well deserved checkered flag. While Turpin celebrated a flawless performance in Victory Lane, the mood was vastly different further back in the garage area as the heavy braking zones and tight barriers of The Glen claimed two major victims in the championship fight: Bryce Shoemaker and Mitchell Williams. Both drivers entered the race with serious title aspirations, but their days quickly unraveled in two entirely separate incidents that left them off the pace with heavy damage. In a race with no cautions to offer a free pass or help them close the gap, the lost track position was terminal, costing both drivers massive points and effectively eliminating their chances at hoisting the championship trophy this season.
