Brownlee Scores First Win of Season in Nashville Thriller
Trevor Brownlee captured his first win of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night at Nashville Superspeedway, surviving late-race chaos and making the most of an overtime restart to end Jordan Traas’ three-race win streak.
In a race filled with intense battles, shifting strategy, and five cautions, Brownlee stayed within striking distance throughout the night before capitalizing when the leaders were collected in a late incident. From there, he lined up on the front row for the final restart and delivered when it mattered most.

Early Trouble Sets the Tone
The first caution of the night came on Lap 9 after contact between the No. 49 of Zach Mullen and the No. 5 of Garrett Stone.
Another quick caution followed shortly after, this time involving the No. 11 of Sean Timothy, the No. 60 of Victor Etheridge, and the No. 17 of Matthew Pponczocha. After the early trouble, Brownlee found himself restarting in seventh position.
As the race settled into a green-flag run, Brownlee worked his way as high as fifth while teams began preparing for a round of green-flag pit stops. Traas, who entered the night riding a three-race win streak, looked to stretch his strategy by staying out longer than much of the field in hopes of catching a mid-race caution.
Strategy Shuffles Brownlee Back
A caution on Lap 88 came after Brownlee had already made his scheduled green-flag pit stop, temporarily trapping him one lap down to the leader. Brownlee took the wave around to return to the lead lap, but the move placed him deep in the field with work still left to do.
He needed another caution to bring himself back into contention, and that opportunity came not long after. The following yellow helped Brownlee gain several positions and put him back inside the top five for a restart with 14 laps remaining.
Despite the track position, Brownlee still had work to do. Dirty air and a less-than-ideal restart made it difficult to close in on the leaders as the laps began to wind down. With time running out, Brownlee needed either another break or a way to find more speed in the closing laps.
Late Chaos Opens the Door
With four laps to go, the complexion of the race changed completely.
The leaders were caught up in an incident that took out race leader Bryce Shoemaker, along with Nate Lesko, Jordan Traas, and Abbrom Ghoston, who had been running inside the top four.
Brownlee, who started the race second and spent most of the night inside the top 10, was able to just barely sneak through and avoid the wreck.
The caution sent the race beyond its scheduled distance of 115 laps and set up an overtime finish. By avoiding the late accident, Brownlee suddenly found himself restarting on the outside of the front row alongside Mitchell Williams for what would become the final restart of the race.
Brownlee Capitalizes in Overtime
Brownlee needed a strong restart to stay within reach of Williams, who had shown speed throughout the night.
Heading off Turn 2 and down the backstretch, Brownlee cleared third-place driver David Burcicki and immediately set his sights on Williams. Coming through Turns 3 and 4 to the white flag, Brownlee got a strong run and dove to the inside as the two crossed the start-finish line.
From there, the battle for the win was on.
Brownlee completed the move with a deep send into Turn 1, clearing Williams and putting himself in control of the final lap. He held on from there to take the checkered flag and secure his first win of the season.
Brownlee Reacts After the Win
After the race, Brownlee was asked about his emotions following the dramatic finish.
“This is amazing,” Brownlee said. “Really, I was okay with wherever I was running at. I don’t know what happened with all the leaders. Something happened big and a lot of them wrecked.”
The win came after what Brownlee described as a consistent but not always dominant start to the season.
“This is an awesome feeling after running mediocre but consistent for much of the first part of the season,” Brownlee said.
When asked about the momentum gained from the win and what it means moving forward, Brownlee pointed to the importance of the points battle.
“It’s a big points day,” Brownlee said. “Second in points, Jordan’s won every race since he showed up here and he’s just kicking our butts week in and week out, so we just gotta keep net gain on him.”
With the victory, Brownlee now finds himself leading the points standings heading into next week with an 11-point advantage. He has also put together an impressive average finish of 4.5 so far this season.
